Praise is
the joyful recounting of all God has done for us. It is closely intertwined with thanksgiving
as we offer back to God appreciation for what He has done on our behalf. Praise can be applied to other relationships
as well. We can praise our family,
friends, boss or others. Praise does
not require anything of us. It is merely
a truthful acknowledgement of the good deeds of others.
Worship,
however, is different than praise.
Though praise may be part of it worship is the art of losing self in the
adoration of another. Praise is easy,
worship is not!
To truly
worship God, we must let go of our self-worship. We must be willing to humble ourselves before
God, surrender every part of our lives to His control, and adore Him for who He
is, not just what He has done.
Worship is a
lifestyle and not just an occasional activity.
So how do you worship from Monday through Saturday?
Through
worship we realign our priorities with God’s and acknowledge Him once more as
the rightful Lord of our lives.
Praise the Lord!
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens!
2 Praise him for his mighty deeds;
praise him according to his excellent greatness!
3 Praise him with trumpet sound;
praise him with lute and harp!
4 Praise him with tambourine and dance;
praise him with strings and pipe!
5 Praise him with sounding cymbals;
praise him with loud clashing cymbals!
6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord! -Psalm 150 (ESV)
